3 Foods That Negatively Affect your Skin

Remember that old saying that goes “you are what you eat”? That saying applies to skin care as well. If you are one to eat a ton of greasy foods all the time, your skin will probably reflect that. That is why it is so important to pay attention to what foods you are consuming and if they are going to be beneficial for your skin. I will be providing 3 examples of foods that can negatively affect your skin.

#1: You better side-eye that sugar!

If you are going to be avoiding anything for the sake of your skin, avoid consuming large amounts of sugar on a daily basis. Sugar is one of the biggest causes of acne and other skin issues. Sticking to healthier options in sugar such as pure organic cane sugar or brown sugar actually reap positive benefits as well, such as burning fat and growing muscle while maintaining a healthy complexion.

#2: Calling-it-quits with the caffeine!

Caffeine, while it has its benefits for your skin, also has its negatives for your skin. Coffee, which contains caffeine can actually help your skin from inflammation and decrease the chances of acne flare-ups as well. While all of that is very good, it can also cause a negative effect such as increased acne or clogged pores. Decaffeinated products are always a better options because they’re healthier. Decaf products don’t contain any caffeine but still can produce the same effects caffeine normally does without negatively impacting your skin.

#3: Say NO to added salts.

Foods with added salts, or any foods that are high in salts are considered bad for your skin. Most processed foods contain salts that are irritants to the skin and can damage skin cells. Sea salt however is considered to be very good for the skin’s natural barrier and can actually help with inflammation and acne.

In conclusion, most foods, such as those high in sugar, salts or caffeine can be more negative for your skin than some might realize. While these three components can be found in our daily foods and almost impossible to avoid, the key is to be consuming them in moderation and maintaining a balanced diet and lifestyle to reap bountiful rewards for your skin. You got this! ; )
