Easy Skin Care Routine for Sensitive & Dry Skin Types
It can be quite difficult finding the right skin care products to use on sensitive or dry skin at times. Some products that help other people with oiliness for example might not help those with sensitive skin and, if anything, might make their sensitive skin even worse. That is why, with enough research, it is important to find products specifically tailored to sensitive and dry skin needs. Luckily, I have already done the research for you.
Some of the most common types of sensitive skin are:
1. Sensitivity that is triggered by breakouts
2. Sensitivity caused by heat
3. Dry or dehydrated sensitivity
4. Allergic reactions that cause sensitivity
Some sensitive skin symptoms can consist of red, flaky and white dry patches on the skin.
It is important you look out for your skin symptom and use products that will help with those specific sensitive skin types. Below you will find an image that displays the difference between dry and healthy skin.
Step #1: Carefully cleanse your skin.
If you are someone who struggles with sensitive skin, it is imperative that you constantly treat it with the right skin care products to ensure the sensitivity of your skin is controlled and maintained. One of these important skin care products consist of a gentle cleanser. Cleansing your face before adding any other skin care products is the most effective way in maintaining healthy skin and setting a clean foundation for the rest of your skin care routine. You want to make sure that while finding a cleanser, you look for ones that are foam. Foam cleansers are very helpful for those with dry, itchy or flaky skin that's caused by sensitivity, and it won't dry out the skin. I recommend Calm + Restore™ Redness Relief Cleanser for Sensitive Skin | AVEENO®
Step #2: Face cream frenzyIncorporating a face cream in your daily skin care routine is essential, for its exfoliating and moisturizing properties are beneficial for those with highly sensitive skin. When it comes to Aveeno skin care products for sensitive skin, they never miss. I suggest sticking to Aveeno if you struggle with Eczema, sensitivity or any skin condition for that matter. As someone like me who had struggled with Eczema during my early teen years, Aveeno is your go-to for skin care products that actually heal, not hurt. I recommend Tone + Texture Gentle Renewing Night Cream | AVEENO®
Step #3: Face it with a face oil
Using a face oil, especially one that's meant for overnight use has been proven to be very effective in treating sensitive skin. Any face oil with coconut milk is very beneficial for its natural properties that lock in moisture on dry skin. Face oils are meant to leave your skin feeling softened and restoring the natural barrier of the skin. I recommend SheaMoisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Overnight Face Oil | Walgreens
Step #4: Love a good lip balm
Many who struggle with sensitive and dry skin might also struggle with red, dry and flaky irritated lips. Luckily, there are also lip treatments tailored to severe dryness and irritation on the lips. Burts Bees is famously known for its helpful lip balm treatments that include natural ceramides. I would highly recommend someone with sensitive skin and chapped lips to stick to Burts Bees' natural lip remedies. I recommend Overnight Intensive Lip Treatment | Burt's Bees (burtsbees.com)
Step #4: Mineral sunscreen is major
Using a mineral sunscreen can be greatly effective down the line, because they act as a barrier against the sun's rays more effectively than a chemical sunscreen. Chemical sunscreens can be very damaging in the long run, for they absorb the sun's rays instead of reflecting them. I recommend a sensitive mineral sunscreen that is lightweight with the best zinc oxide protection that will be friendly with all sensitive and dry skin symptoms. I recommend Eucerin Sun Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 | Walgreens
In conclusion, sensitive and dry skin symptoms can look very different for everyone. It can be a challenge for some to be able to find affordable products that actually work on sensitive skin, but it definitely isn't impossible. With enough gentle work, patience and the right type of products, anyone can treat sensitive skin. I hope that the products I listed above are helpful in your sensitive and/or dry skin care journey.
